Meeting Inspirational People Meeting Dr Ruth Manora, Human Rights Defender from India, March 2019. It was a pleasure to re-connect with Dr Ruth Manora in the Palais des Nations, Geneva where she was participating in an event as a Human Rights Defender from the Dalit community in India. We had met in January 2019 in Nepal when we were presented together on a panel at the South Asian Regional Conference in Kathmandu, Nepal. Discussed child marriage with HRH the Countess of Wessex at the Ambassador’s Reception at the UK Mission to the UN in New York. Meeting with the Honorable Mogoeng Mogoeng, Chief Justice of South Africa Geneva, 18th July 2018 who gave a rousing speech to a packed Council Chamber. It was an honour to meet Gertrude Mongella, Secretary General of the UN’s 4th Women’s World Conference in Beijing. In October 2017 we attended one of the consultations for the Global Compact on Migration in Geneva and had the privilege of meeting Ambassador Lacy Swing, the Director General of the International Organisation for Migration. After serving two five year terms of office, Ambassador Swing was succeeded by Antonio Vitorino of Portugal in October 2018. A personal highlight for me so far in my work with the UN was meeting Judge Navi Pillay (above right), the former UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (2008-2015) when we talked about child marriage and other issues.
